NETLOGO starts now!

  • In order to get you all started you need to download and install Netlogo. This is a requirement, you must do it tonight.
  • I will require that you watch some video tutorials as we learn Netlogo. This will enable you to go ahead if you like, but there are many details that are in the video that we will NOT cover in class. Much like reading, you won't learn much if you are multitasking while watching the video (unless the 2nd task is a Netlogo window that you experiment with.
  • Link to tutorial videos: http://bert.stuy.edu/pbrooks/videos/NetlogoTutorial/NetlogoTutorial.py

I expect that everyone will have downloaded, installed, and tested (see if it runs) Netlogo by tomorrow. ALSO you must watch the 3 videos.

♦I expect everyone to have completed parts 2 and 3 by Friday (bring in a printed copy of your homework parts 2+3 on Friday)
  1. Watch the video tutorials: (By tomorrow!)
    • "Introduction to Netlogo"
    • "Turtles Patches and Links"
    • "11. Netlogo Docs-1"
    • (These are highly technical videos, you can't watch them in the background while doing other things, they require your full attention, and require you to test what you see in Netlogo, to determine if you really understand)
  2. In netlogo, go to "HELP" -> "Netlogo User Manual". That will open a website with the user manual. Under the left menu there is a header "Introduction" that has a link to "Sample Model: Party". Click on it.
  3. Do the Sample Model Party Activity. Then:
    • Answer all the BOLDED QUESTIONS before the "challenge" section.
    • Optionally: do the challenge questions.
