Goal:

“Play” with Netlogo and gain familiarity.

Activity 1:

Right click near a turtle to open up a drop down menu. Click on the turtle number you wish to select and you will see a status panel open up, that lists attributes of the turtle:

xcor

ycor

heading

Who

etc...

Try to change the values in the status panel by clicking on a value and typing a new value.

Can you determine what they mean by changing values?

If you cannot determine what one of the values means, where can you look for an answer?

NOW EVERYONE:

1. In your notebook, list all of the variables who, color etc. (ignore breed for now)

2. Next to each, write a description of what they mean.

Which one(s) cannot be changed? Why not?

Activity 2:

Use the turtles to draw an amazing picture/pattern:

You should pair up with the person TWO ROWS towards the door.

ONLY ODD TEST# people should move. Even stay seated.

If you are int the 1st two rows, you go back to the last two rows.

(elmo side) 1 2 3 4 5 6 (door side)

Row 1 goes to row 3.

Row 2 goes to row 4.
...

Row 5 goes to row 1.

Row 6 goes to row 2.

Basic observer commands for turtle creation:

Homework: Netlogo tutorials 1A,2A,3A. Do the exercises at the bottom of the screen:

e.g.

  1. After you've seen the video, do the following exercises...

(1B,2B,3B are answers that you should watch after doing each exercise)

You should watch 1A, do the exercise then watch the answer 1B. Repeat for 2, and 3.

(I can give a pop quiz anytime I assign Netlogo tutorials to watch!)
